ArtsBusXpress

ArtsBusXpress provides the needed transportation so students can have a culturally enriching experience as an extension of their school programs. Linking students and the arts community. ArtsBusXpress provides the missing link in a two-way street, connecting students with visual and performing arts venues throughout our region.

Over 174 arts organizations provide free or discounted entry to their venues. Teachers are required to include culturally-relevant fieldtrips as part of the school experience. School buses sit idle on school parking lots between noon and 3 pm for lack of a few dollars per student to fund the transportation to the cultural art venue. ArtsBusXpress provides that needed funding through bus grants to teachers. Each donation aids in sending students on "A Ride to the Arts!"

Since its inception in 2002, ArtsBusXpress has underwritten buses to send more than 100,000 children on "A Ride to the Arts", expanding classroom resources with arts-rich learning opportunities in music, theatre, dance, art museums, science, and technology.

For many children, fieldtrips like this to Balboa Park
with teachers and classmates, will be their only opportunity
to venture outside their neighborhoods to discover arts and culture.

These students at Ericson Elementary School in Mira Mesa are getting on a bus
provided by ArtsBusXpress to go to Balboa Park for the San
Diego Junior Theatre performance of JUNIE B. JONES.

$1 Per Child
“It's ideas...that built American business. And it's the arts that help kids build ideas, and nurture a place in their minds for new ideas to grow.” - Richard Gurin, former CEO of Binney & Smith, makers of Crayola crayons.

As a result of reduced funding from local, state and federal grants, school districts in San Diego County are eliminating money originally spent on transportation for educational fieldtrips.

ArtsBusXpress is the only entity, non-profit or otherwise, to fill this void by funding transportation to send K-12 school children on art, science, technology and cultural field trips throughout San Diego County.

Exposure to creative and cultural endeavors during early academic years, increases students’ reading, mathematics and language skills. These learning experiences also help children develop critical thinking, social and motivational skills that are considered basic for success in school, life and work.

Join us in this campaign to send all 500,000 students in San Diego County on at least one educational field trip experience each year!

Every dollar you donate will be leveraged 6:1 to put one child on a school bus field trip. Your support, along with our expanding partnerships in San Diego County and California with foundations, businesses, and arts, culture, science and technology organizations, we will ensure every student gets A Ride to the Arts!
