ArtsBusXpress underwrites transportation -- the missing link in a two-way street connecting San Diego school children with the arts. By providing grants for school buses, ArtsBusXpress enables teachers to integrate fieldtrips to music, theatre, dance, art galleries, museums, science, and technology into classroom instruction. For many children, these experiences with their classmates will be their only opportunity to visit an art gallery or museum, hear an opera or symphony concert, attend a play or ballet.
Since the first bus was launched in October 2002, over 100,000 students in more than 343 San Diego Schools have been offered A Ride to the Arts! 80% of the schools served by ArtsBusXpress are classified at the lowest economic-poverty level (Title I– eligible for free and reduced-price lunches). We continue to serve that community.

Thanks to special donations from opera lovers and cross border collaboration via the San Diego-Tijuana Sister Cities Society, ArtsBusXpress has underwritten buses to bring children from Mexico to student dress rehearsal performances at the San Diego Opera since 2004.
ArtsBusXpress began as an unprecedented 5-way partnership with San Diego City Schools, the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, the Community Council for Music in the Schools, San Diego Arts Education Partnership, San Diego City Schools-Visual and Performing Arts, and the San Diego-Tijuana Sister Cities Society, the founding partner. In April 2005, ArtsBusXpress became an independent 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation.
To get the buses rolling, founding grants were made by the Dickinson Foundation and corporate sponsors from the arts and framing industry. To date, foundations, corporate sponsors, art patrons, and individual donors are putting wheels under our vision of arts in the education of every child -- and YOU can join them!
